Trimming Knives & GuideThere are 2 types of knives generally used by installers Snap-off blade style are primarily used for initial cutting of film and trimming - these are generally available at hardware stores etc. However most are supplied with "carbon" steel blades which although very sharp, when dulled they may scratch the glass surface. For this reason we recommend changing the blades frequently. Alternatively ypu may purchase "stainless" steel blades. Although these blades are just as sharp, because they are a "softer" metal, when dulled they are less likely to scratch the glass. Surgical Scalpel and blades - these blades are extremely sharp "carbon" steel and are excellent for trimming due to their small size and better control; but again they need changing regularly to minimise the risk of scratching the glass. For most DIY situations, the snap-off style is recommended. Use of a trimming guide is recommended
