Privacy & Visibility

As yet there are no films available that can provide privacy from outside at night with the inside lights on.

Even with the darkest, most reflective films installed, blinds and curtains still need to be closed at night to obtain privacy from the outside.

Nor are there any films that can provide good daytime privacy without reducing inside light levels to some extent.

Privacy is obtained by;
  • reflecting the light towards the greater light source, which during the day is usually the towards outside (at night it's the opposite with the result it is more difficult to see out)

  • lowering the light level inside the room (much like trying to look inside a cave; can't see in from outside, but can see out fine)

Day
The most effective films for providing good daytime privacy, high heat rejection, and lower internal light levels are the R15G & NS10 films. During daytime the outside appearance will be of a dark grey glass which will make it difficult to see inside; the effect will be reduced if there is some strong light source in the room or 'back lighting' from another window on another wall.

Night
The R15G film will display a 'silver mirror' finish to the inside at night with the lights on, and will be difficult to see out. From the outside the glass will appear a dark grey colour and will be harder to see in than clear glass, but it will still not provide night-time privacy from outside.

The NS10 film, having dye to both sides of the film, will still display some 'mirror effect' to the inside at night with the lights on, but it will be a dark grey rather than a strong 'silver' finish. Having the appearance of dark grey glass, your vision in and out will be reduced compared to clear glass, but it will still not provide night-time privacy from outside.
